Java Plugin On BackTrack 5 R3

When i try downloading video from KeepVid,i found my BT does not have java plugin installed. So, i carried out some action to get it done.

Here what i do:

On Terminal(as root if required) type: java -version

and you should see the version of java you are currently using. Mine was:

java version "1.6.0_24"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.11.5) (6b24-1.11.5-0ubuntu1~10.04.2)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode)

From that output, we could know the IcedTea version currently installed on the system. What need to do is install latest and reconfigured through this command: sudo apt-get install icedtea-plugin

Restart your firefox and to check either java plugin is working right go here=http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

Wicd "could not connect wicd d-bus interface. Check the wicd log for error messages"

Since i installed BackTrack on my computer, just before i start Wicd Network Manager,i oftenly got error or message like this "could not connect wicd d-bus interface. Check the wicd log for error messages"

This is might because the failure of configuration comes with BackTrack. Dont worry much, this can be fix easily wish a few commands. It need to reconfigured.

Open your terminal.Make sure you are login as root then run this command

"dpkg-reconfigure wicd"
"update-rc.d wicd defaults"

Reboot your BT to see the effect :D

Mount Windows Partition on BackTrack

Another and easy way to mount your windows partition or local disk in BackTrack is by using ntfs-3g. That very easy way to deal with windows partition since it need to do manual and does not really work in each boot.

Note: This is alternative to edit the fstab file.
You can install ntfs-3g through terminal and if needed, also install ntfs-config.

apt-get install ntfs-config

After done install,go to "System" > "Administration" > "NTFS Configuration Tool"

You can proceed through that. Easy and work like a charm :D

BackTrack Default Terminal Size

When you open the terminal, the size is small or large for you and maybe you need to customize it according you set. This will work for every time you start or bring up the terminal.

So, here the trick worth to try:

1- ALT(hold)+F2
2- paste "sudo gedit /usr/share/vte/termcap/xterm"
3- search for ":co#80:it#8:li#24:\"
4- replace "80" for height and "24" for width for what suit you.
5- save and check it out

For example, mine is set ":co#140:it#8:li#35:\" mean 140 for height and 35 for width

For whom with BT installed and try to update or upgrade and comes with an error like that or maybe different a bit:

E: Could not perform immediate configuration on 'libattr1'.Please see man 5 apt.conf under APT::Immediate-Configure for details. (2)

Edit Grub Make Windows As Default Boot

The little problem after fresh install BackTrack 5 R3(actually all BT version) is about GRUB,their boot loader OS. Now, it make me difficult(seems to) to wait at front of pc waiting to choose "Windows 7" to boot. If not that,in several seconds,it will boot to BackTrack :(

To make this easier(no more talks) let go to the solution.

Firstly, boot to your BT and make sure you navigate at the desktop screen

Brings up "Terminal" window then type "gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg" this will open the grub content

You can see the whole content and try to get how it work to understand the function  and a risks :P

The grub.cfg content is like this(mine)

Installing BackTrack 5 R3 64-bit Dual boot

Just now i successfully install BackTrack 5 R3 64-bit GNOME on my computer dual booting with Windows 7 64-bit. For installing this new BackTrack, first you can get OS file from here(BackTrack download page)

Select option which meet with your system. For example, im select BackTrack 5 R3,GNOME,64,ISO,Direct..Then click on "CLICK TO DOWNLOAD"

After download is complete, burn ISO file to DVD. you can use Nero to perform this. REMEMBER to burn as image file NOT DATA FILE

Setting your BIOS(if needed) to set CD/DVD ROM as first boot then boot BackTrack from DVD. Just press "Enter" and "Enter" to start BackTrack as "demo session"(can install later.please continue to read)

After done boot BackTrack, type "startx" to enter GUI session on BackTrack 5 R3. You should see "Install" file clearly on the desktop. Double click it to start installing BackTrack 5 R3 64-bit

Choose your preferred language(mine select English)

Choose time zone(select your time zone.can change later)

Choose keyboard layout(or just next for default keyboard layout)

Now,This is most important part.please be careful from here. Choose your partition to install BT. What its need to work is EXT3 or EXT4 file system(mine is EXT4,8GB above partition size, partition for swap(if necessary) Select "advance" for custom partition choice.

Make change to meet with what you needed. From picture below,i already have 20GB EXT4(my previous BT)

I configuring my partition.Use all that partition size.Set it to EXT4 file system, format partition and mount point as "/".
A dialogue pop out telling me about swap space/partition.i think i dont need it so i press "continue". If you considering to make swap partition, simply create new partition and select file system as "swap".
Installing boot loader. If you have two hardisk,be careful to select the location of boot loader.Better same hardisk with your windows boot.

Adding PPA Key BackTrack 5 R1

Open terminal(whatever console program). For example, i use gnome-terminal.. Simply login as "root". Yupps, only root access allowed to do this action. You can proceed by typing "sudo -i" then enter password for root.

Format is:
[sudo add-apt-repository] [PPA KEY]

For example i want to add PPA Key for wine. Here it should become like this:
"sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa"

My BackTrack 5 R1

Ini bukan 1st look dah sebab aku dah edit. Walaupun xbanyak bezanyer tp dh edit. Bkan dikire first look la kan??

Korang nak, cari la..alaaa,senang jer..taip ler ape2 kat seach box google tu..cari result utk image.. Yang ni size large. Hari tu aku jumpa banyak jenis warna tp ni yang bekanan and bertempek kat "box" aku.

Mocp Theme And Configuration

Hardisk laptop rosak tak tahu nak buat apa. So, ngoprek Backtrack, memang tak boring tapi pening kepala. HAHAHA..Makin susah makin bez..Tadi duk setting Mocp/Moc(apa-apa jer korang panggil). Yang pasti Music On Console..

Ini settingan aku edit untuk "box" aku. Saje nak view kat blog. Kalau bekenan, sila copy paste and use it. Edit it back and lau cantik, share balik ngan aku.HAHAHAHA

Tuuu diaaa...Theme yang aku ciplak dari mane ntah aku pon tak ingat..dapat source then aku edit la ikut taste aku. Pasal warna tu aku adjust kat "theme" file. Buat file baru atau edit yg mane yg korang memang tak suka langsung. Kalau memang tak suka?? DELETE TERUS JER!!! HAHAHAHA.

Config:

NOTE: Letak file config ni kat "~/.moc". Kalau tak exist, create new one :D
